Project for the Alexandria Library

Unesco has declared the year 2002 as the Year of the Book, its focus is the city of Alexandria, and the site is the new Alenxandria Library. In September the Library will host an art exhibit titled "Imagining the Book". Artists from all over the world will be participating.

I am one of those artists that have been invited. For the exhibit i have produced a relief, which will be cast in cement. This relief will be used to make a series of prints, placing them in strategic places around
Alexandria and Cairo. The actual relief shall be part of the exhibit.

Two weeks prior to the opening of the art exhibit a series of workshops will take place throughout the city. These workshops will concentrate on bookmaking techniques, i will be developing a workshop with local artists.

In order to additionally fund my participation in this project, i have developed two series of prints, using a section from the original piece which will be exhibited at the Library. We will be holding a fundraising event on September 6th, starting at 8 p.m., at the Nina Moreno Gallery, in Tijuana. The prints will be on display and available for purchase. Lined up for the event, so far, jazz musician Turiya Mareya will be playing, Raquel Presa and Liz Cassezus will be reading, more to confirm.
